Zelensky Trump meeting: Darcy cartoon

CLEVELAND, Ohio In order to avoid another Trump-Vance ambush that he was slapped with in February, Ukrainian President Volodymr Zelensky returned to the White House on Monday, this time accompanied by NATO allies.

On camera, Vice President Vance remained silent during the conversation with Zelensky and NATO leaders in the East Room and the Oval Office.

VP Vance and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff sat on the sofa in the Oval Office. Witkoff asserted that Putin had promised to grant Ukraine Article 5 security protections in exchange for a peace agreement after the Trump-Putin summit in Alaska three days prior.

Zelensky seemed to require Article 5 safeguards against not only Putin but also Trump and Vance after being ambushed in February.

Not just President Trump and Vice President Vance were friendlier with this visit. So was Brian Glenn from Real America Voice, the boyfriend of Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene.

Glenn was critical of Zelensky’s clothing on the February visit. On Monday, Glenn gave him praise for his costume.

You look amazing in that suit.

Zelensky wore a black shirt with a button collar, slacks, and shoes, and he had only thrown on a black sport coat. He donned the same attire to Pope Francis’s burial.

Zelensky, a former professional comedian and performer, retaliated against Glenn:

I changed my suit, and you’re wearing the same one.

Trump shifted his stance on a truce between Russia and Ukraine, and Zelensky altered his suit.

Trump warned that there will be dire repercussions if Putin did not agree to a truce before the summit in Alaska.

However, as he left his meeting with Putin, Trump reiterated Putin’s stance that a ceasefire is unnecessary while pursuing a peace agreement.

NATO leaders made it clear to President Trump on camera at the East Room conference table that they support a ceasefire plan.

President Trump once interrupted the meeting to call Putin for forty minutes. According to President Trump’s briefing to the leaders following the call, Putin said he would be open to meeting with Zelensky in roughly two weeks.

Since Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, more than a million Russians and Ukrainians have lost their lives.

Hillary Clinton is correct; President Trump should win the Nobel Peace Prize if his actions result in a long-lasting peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine.
