Wagner’s of Westlake, 30855 Center Ridge Road, will host the 2025 Westlake Alumni Association Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and Dinner on September 25.
Dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m., and socializing and the cash bar will open at 5:30 p.m.
A table of eight can be reserved for $400, or $50 per person.
There are three categories in the Hall of Fame:
Athletic: groups or individuals that were outstanding athletes in high school
Distinguished: a person who, through their professional pursuits after graduating, elevated Westlake High School
Teachers, coaches, administrators, and community leaders who have helped make Westlake City Schools an outstanding educational institution are honored members.
The 2012 varsity baseball squad, Bob Smith (Class of 1969), and Bob MacKenzie (Class of 1971) are this year’s athletic members.
Jenni Meno-Sand (Class of 1989), Chad DiLillo (Class of 2010), and Nick DiCello (Class of 1965) are examples of distinguished category members.
Art Daniels is the recipient of the Honorary Category.

The village of Bay
Drop-off for home waste: On August 29, from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., collect your old computers, hazardous waste, and other scraps and bring them to the Service Garage, located at 31300 Naigle Road, for secure disposal.

Open House: On September 3, from 6 to 8 p.m., the Bay Village Early Childhood PTA (ECPTA) will have an Open House for both new and returning members at Sibling Revelry Brewing, located at 29305 Clemens Road, Westlake.
Drinks will be served, and appetizers will be served.
Come discover the purpose of the ECPTA. Families with infants through kindergarten are welcome to attend.

Election details: To hear from the candidates before the general election on November 4, the League of Women Voters is holding a number of forums.
On September 10, at 6:30 p.m., the Don Umerley Civic Center, located at 21016 Hilliard Blvd., Rocky River, will host a Rocky River Judicial and Clerk of Court forum.
The League of Women Voters chapters in Bay Village, North Olmsted, Rocky River, and Westlake are hosting the event.
On September 25, at 7 p.m., Bay Middle School, located at 27725 Wolf Road, will host a Bay Village Mayoral Forum.
At 7 p.m. on September 29, listen to the Bay Village Ward 1 candidates at the Bay Village Branch Library, located at 27400 Wolf Road.

RIVER ROCKY
Pie contest and sock hop: On August 29 at 1:30 p.m., DJ John Cattani will play music from the 1950s and 1960s at the Senior Center, located at 21012 Hilliard Blvd.
Best Dressed Guy, Best Dressed Gal, and Best Dressed Couple will all get prizes.
During the Sock Hop, there will also be a pie contest.
Best Fruit Pie, Best Cream Pie, and Best Overall will all get prizes.
Two pies will be baked by participants—one for the drawing and one for judging. At noon, judges will begin sampling the pies. The same day, a drawing for a chance to win one of the competing pies will take place after the winners are revealed.
During the Sock Hop, there will be small, complimentary pie sampling available.
At the front desk, there will be drawing tickets to win one of the competing pies. One ticket costs $2, and three tickets cost $5. Pies have to be made from scratch.
The entry deadline is August 22.

Road projects: At the end of August, work is planned to replace the sanitary and storm sewers as well as the water lines on Buckingham Road, Arundel Road (north of Beachcliff Blvd.), and Argyle Oval (from Frazier Drive to Buckingham Road).
The City Council authorized the contract with Fabrizi Trucking & Paving Inc., the project’s low bidder.

Higley Road, Wright Avenue, Prospect Avenue, parts of Elmwood Park, and a section of the Rocky River Service Garage are all part of the city’s 2025 street improvement program. The project includes asphalt resurfacing, curb ramp improvements, casting corrections, and the addition of curbs and aprons where necessary.
The City Council authorized the contract with Crossroads Asphalt Recycling, Inc., the project’s low bidder.
Later this summer or early in the fall is when work is anticipated to start.
Thanks to the Rocky River Police Department, the Westlake Police Department, the Rocky River Fire Department, the Rocky River City School District, and members of the Westshore Enforcement Bureau SWAT team, the Rocky River Police Department conducted a tabletop active threat training last week.
The purpose of the slow-paced training was to ascertain how the agencies would react together in the event that an incident occurred in a school facility.

WESTLAKE
Eagle Scout project: As part of his service project, Dylan Hunter, a student at Westlake High School and future Eagle Scout, recently constructed and gave a flag retirement box to the Westlake Porter Public Library.
People will be able to properly dispose of faded, frayed, or unusable U.S. flags by placing them in Hunter’s flag retirement box.
Community Run: The third annual City of Westlake Community Run and Pancake Breakfast is scheduled for September 13; registration is already open.
A 5K run/walk, a 1-mile race, and a kids’ dash are all part of the family-friendly event.
The Westlake Recreation Youth Scholarship Fund is the beneficiary of the event’s profits.
