INDIANA — A 17-year-old juvenile and a 21-year-old Indianapolis man were arrested in the early morning hours of June 4 following a wrong-way chase on I-69 that ended in a vehicle stop and foot pursuit, according to the Fishers Police Department.
The incident began around 2 a.m. when a Fishers police officer observed a vehicle entering I-69 at 96th Street using the exit ramp, heading in the wrong direction.
“The FPD officer turned on their emergency lights to stop the vehicle and alert other drivers that the driver was going the wrong way,” the department said in a statement. “Once the driver got onto I-69, they turned with the flow of traffic and that’s when a pursuit ensued.”
The pursuit continued for about a mile until officers used a precision immobilization technique (PIT maneuver) to stop the vehicle.
The maneuver, which involves striking the vehicle to cause it to spin and stop, brought the chase to an end.
Following the stop, both the driver and passenger fled on foot.
Officers quickly apprehended the 17-year-old driver, while the 21-year-old passenger, identified as Adolfo Florentino, fled into a wooded area.
A drone operated by Fishers Police located Florentino hiding in a tree line. A K-9 unit from the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office assisted in tracking and arresting him.
Florentino was charged with resisting law enforcement and possession of less than 5 grams of methamphetamine.
The juvenile faces multiple charges, including resisting law enforcement, possession of less than 5 grams of methamphetamine, possession of a controlled substance without a prescription, operating a vehicle in a manner that creates substantial risk, and driving without a license.
The Westfield Police Department also assisted in the arrests.
