COLUMBUS, Ohio —

football was well-represented at the ESPYs on Wednesday, highlighted by
Will Howard
, Gee Scott and Cody Simon taking the stage to accept the 2024-25 Capital One Cup for men’s sports.
However, the Buckeyes didn’t escape without being on the wrong end of a joke from host and comedian
Shane Gillis
— a Notre Dame fan.

Gillis praised Ohio State for winning its ninth national title in January, but he made sure to mention the team’s loss against Michigan.
Gillis then turned the jokes against the Wolverines by throwing shade at the sign-stealing scandal currently being reviewed by the Division I Committee on Infractions.
“Michigan, who didn’t cheat this time, beat them (OSU) fair and square,” Gillis said. “Are we ever going to hold accountable — yeah, whatever. They’re allowed to cheat. No repercussions.”
Ohio State was nominated for the best team award at the annual show hosted by ESPN. However, the Philadelphia Eagles took home the prize.
