Over 17,000 without power in Virginia following severe storms

The state of Virginia On Thursday, June 19, heavy thunderstorms raced through Central Virginia, leaving more than 17,000 homes and businesses without electricity on Friday morning.

The storms started Thursday afternoon and damaged infrastructure and electricity lines across the Greater Richmond Region, according to Dominion Energy.

The biggest lingering outages as of Friday, June 20, at 10:25 a.m., were noted in:


  • Henrico County:

    9,917 outages

  • Hanover County:

    5,121 outages

  • Richmond:

    2,222 outages

Nearly 90,000 people throughout the region were without power during the height of the storm.

Customers are urged to visit Dominion Energy’s website for updates and anticipated restoration times as staff work to restore service.
