Ohio After a vicious machete attack in Preble County, a Camden man is charged with murder and a woman is killed.
Leigha Huff, 41, of Middletown, was killed on Sunday, June 22, by a machete wound she received while riding as a passenger on a motorbike close to the 7700 block of Upper Somers Road, outside Camden, according to the Preble County Sheriff’s Office.
At at 10:32 p.m., deputies were summoned to a residence in the 3700 block of Aukerman Creek Road in response to complaints of a woman who was heavily bleeding from a major leg wound. At the scene, Huff was declared deceased.
Huff was riding a motorcycle into Eaton when a man in a driveway allegedly hit her with something as the bike went by, according to investigators. After taking Huff to a friend’s house on a motorcycle, the driver dialed 911.
Later, authorities discovered that a woman at the same Upper Somers Road home had called the Preble County 911 Dispatch Center five minutes prior, at 10:27 p.m., with a non-emergency call.
According to the caller, her father was outside while her ex-boyfriend was riding a motorcycle up and down the street attempting to persuade her to come outside.
The sheriff’s office claims that the initial allegation had nothing to do with Huff or the motorcyclist. Later, deputies verified that Huff had been stabbed with a machete.
The alleged weapon was found after a search warrant was carried out on the property.
The original caller’s father, Kenneth Brabant, 59, was taken into custody by deputies and lodged into the Preble County Jail. Brabant was officially accused at Eaton Municipal Court on June 25 with:
- Two counts of Murder (unclassified felonies)
- Two counts of Felonious Assault (second-degree felonies)
- Tampering with Evidence (third-degree felony)
- Attempt to Commit an Offense (first-degree felony)
Brabant is still being held until he appears in court. The inquiry is still under progress.
