One person dead after pursuit leads to crash in Pennsylvania

PENNSYLVANIA — A police pursuit in Cumberland County ended in a fatal crash Thursday evening, according to the Pennsylvania State Police.

Just before 7 p.m., an officer with the West Shore Regional Police Department attempted to stop a motorcycle in the borough of Wormleysburg for multiple traffic violations.

The motorcyclist failed to stop, leading to a pursuit that continued onto the northbound entrance ramp of Interstate 81 in East Pennsboro Township.

The motorcyclist later died from injuries sustained in the crash, PennDOT confirmed. The victim’s identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

The Pennsylvania State Police’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Specialist (CARS) Unit and Forensic Services Unit (FSU) are investigating the incident in coordination with West Shore Regional Police.

The entrance ramp from Route 15/Route 11 to I-81 was closed for several hours and reopened shortly after 11 p.m.
