North Carolina During a traffic check over the weekend, Jackson County officers found cash, guns, and drugs, putting a recently freed prisoner back behind bars.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office reports that at approximately 5 p.m., deputies pulled over a car.
Saturday on Skyland Drive in Sylva after observing that the vehicle had neglected to indicate when turning and that a taillight was out. The Food Lion parking lot was the location of the halt.
K9 Aries, which deputies used, warned of the existence of drugs.
Methamphetamine, marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and two firearms—a Diamond Back 300 Blackout rifle and a.380 caliber handgun—were discovered during a search of the car. Additionally, deputies confiscated $3,244 in cash.
According to the North Carolina Department of Corrections, the driver was Dennis Woodrow Shelton Jr., who was just released from jail on March 28 after serving time for an attempted narcotics trafficking offense.
Shelton is now being charged with a number of new offenses, such as:
- Possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine
- Two counts of possession of a firearm by a felon
- Simple possession of a Schedule IV controlled substance
- Possession of marijuana up to ounce
He was arrested and is now in jail while the inquiry is ongoing.
