North Olmsted to begin phase 2 of Community Park construction

NORTH OLMSTED, Ohio — The reimaging of North Olmsted’s Community Park continues.

“The first phase is coming to a close,” North Olmsted Director of Recreation & Public Engagement Tim Pinchek said.

“Phase 1 should be done at the beginning of August. That’s everything except for the concession stand, which will be completed at the end of August.”

Millstone Management Group, Inc. won the $1.98 million bid that includes the construction on the north end of the park.

The work involved the creation of three new baseball fields, paved paths, crosswalks at the intersections of East Park, West Park and North Park drives, a parking lot, landscaping and a concession stand.

The latter $424,200 contract was also awarded to Millstone Management Group, Inc.

“What will be open when phase 1 is done are the exterior trails and paths,” he said.

“We’re going to fence in the ballfields, interior trails and concession stand so the grass can grow. That way, the turf has the proper time to grow this fall into the spring so we can use the fields in 2026.”

The city also put up new glass basketball backboards and rims at the park courts.

The sand volleyball courts are also open.

As for phase 2, Infinity Construction Company recently began the $3.89 million awarded contract at the southern end of the Lorain Road amenity.

“Infinity is going to start putting up the construction fence around phase 2,” he said.

“They want to get in there as quick as they can start on the southern-most baseball field, so, again, the field has time for the growing seasons for the outfield.”

The plan is to relocate and renovate a ballfield with lights, as well as add the spray park/splash pad, performance stage, walking trails, all-inclusive playground equipment, pickleball/tennis courts and additional senior center parking lot.

Pinchek said regarding the latter, there will be more handicapped spots, as well as added parking on East Park Drive.

“Phase 2 construction should be done at the end of this year,” he said. “As far as all the plantings go, we’ll definitely be done by the end of this year.

“They may be working some odds and ends in the spring, but their completion date is beginning of May.”

Despite the soggy spring, Pinchek said construction is on time with the community excited about the renovation of Community Park, especially the new baseball fields that will drain properly.

“I’ve heard a lot of positive remarks,” he said.

“People can’t wait for all the new amenities.”
