Ohio’s North Olmsted — Tarik, the North Olmsted police department’s second K-9, was acquired in late 2024. Tarik recently received a new lightweight, protective canine vest.
According to Bob Wagner, the chief of police of North Olmsted, “We want to protect our canine officers just as we do our regular full-time police officers and provide them with a stab-resistant and bulletproof vest.”
This is therefore specially ordered and fitted for the dog. For him, it will be a useful addition.
Mary Ellen Hemann, a councilwoman from Ward 4, recently contributed $1,232 to help pay for the bulletproof dog jacket.
“I knew I wanted to provide his vest as well when the city bought our second K-9,” she said.
We are excited to have Tarik join our police force as an officer and community advocate. He is a fantastic addition. I am aware that Tarik’s handler, Austin Ashenfelter, a police officer, is thrilled with the new canine. The match is fantastic.
Hemann has now gathered money to support a North Olmsted police dog twice.
When the then-new police K-9 Match arrived more than five years ago, the councilwoman did so for the first time.
The motivation came from witnessing the K-9’s influence on the neighborhood and Match’s handler, Officer Ryan DiMatteo, stating that his partner needed to be protected with a lightweight bulletproof vest.
According to her, Match turned into a fantastic spokesperson for our town and a huge addition to our police force.
According to the police chief, Tarik, a Belgian Malinois, has blended in well with the force, and Match is still going strong.
He stated, “Match, who is getting a little older, has been a fantastic dog for us.”
We currently have two police dogs, and Tarik is a useful addition.
