Cleveland, Ohio Savion Hiter, the country’s top running back in the 2026 class, committed to Michigan on Tuesday, beating out Ohio State, Tennessee, and Georgia, among other formidable opponents. This gave the Michigan Wolverines a little more hope for the future.
The 5-foot-11, 200-pound native from Mineral, Virginia, demonstrated his exceptional vision, balance, and breakaway speed during his junior season, amassing 1,698 running yards and 26 touchdowns on just 156 carries. He has been compared to recent NFL first-round back Omarion Hampton by scouts and commentators.
Before his pledge, Hiter told Maize N. Brew, “I feel like I’m a priority for (Michigan).” They have a large ball-running program. This year, you witnessed it. They have a history of producing excellent running backs, such as Virginia native Blake Corum. Running in a Michigan jersey was something I could envision.
His dedication is a big plus for Michigan. In the 247Sports Team Composite rankings, the Wolverines’ 2026 recruiting class surpassed Tennessee and soared into the national top 10. In the meantime, Rivals indicates that Michigan is moving up in its own rankings, behind Ohio State by just 0.02 points.
Hiter is more than just a budding celebrity. He is now Michigan’s 23rd commit of the cycle, joining five-star edge rusher Carter Meadows and a number of other top-100 commits as the class’s jewel.
The Wolverines will have the opportunity to line up a top running back and quarterback commit, Bryce Underwood, next to each other in the backfield for the first time in school history thanks to Hiter’s commitment.
