LAKEWOOD, Ohio — One of Northeast Ohio’s most beloved summer traditions is back and better than ever.
The 17th annual
Lakewood Summer Meltdown
will transform the heart of downtown Lakewood into a bustling hub of energy and celebration from 4 to 10 p.m. Saturday (July 19).
Drawing nearly 15,000 attendees each year, LakewoodAlive’s Lakewood Summer Meltdown has become a staple event for the city and the surrounding region.
The event takes place on Detroit Avenue between Marlowe and Arthur avenues.
Runners and walkers of all ages are invited to participate in the Meltdown 5K Race and 1 Mile Family Fun Run & Walk.
The street festival features local vendors, delicious food offerings and games that delight attendees of all ages.
On the eastern end of the event will be the return of the AliveOutside Active Lifestyle Zone with fitness demonstrations and activities.
The western end of the festival includes a skate park located in front of the Lakewood Public Library.
There’s also the Gary K. Bish Memorial Beer Garden.
As the sun begins to set, the event continues with live music from local artists Post Saga and Jul Big Green on the Meltdown Stage.
Vehicle Day:
The Olmsted Falls City School District’s annual Vehicle Day at the Early Childhood Center was once again a big hit with attendees.
“Our annual Vehicle Day is definitely a favorite,” Early Childhood Center Principal Jennifer Jackson said.
“This special event truly brings the community to life for our young students, thanks to the participation of a wide variety of community partners. Each year we continue to build and grow our partnerships with the community.”
Community helpers and members brought their unique vehicles for our youngest Bulldogs to explore.
The list included school buses, fire trucks and police horses.
During the hands-on day of learning, the students had a blast learning about the special modes of transportation used by local safety forces and bus drivers.
“It’s exciting to see the extensive mix of vehicles and volunteers packing our parking lot with so many opportunities for our preschool and kindergarten students to explore,” she said.
“In addition to the appreciation we have for our partners, we are also thankful for our team of staff members that coordinate the detailed logistics of this fantastic event. We’re already looking forward to next year’s event.”
North Olmsted’s 2025 Homecoming and Fireworks:
North Olmsted’s 2025 Homecoming and Fireworks celebration is scheduled for Aug. 23 at Great Northern Mall.
The event also includes a Taste of North Olmsted component and car show — both from 2 to 4 p.m. — followed by a parade stepping off from North Olmsted High School.
In addition to food trucks, there’s live music by The FM Project (from 6 to 9 p.m.) followed by fireworks.
“Homecoming is a highlight of the year for our residents,” said North Olmsted Mayor Nicole Dailey Jones in a press release.
“It’s an opportunity for neighbors to come together, support local businesses, enjoy live entertainment and make lasting memories.”
The event is free and open to the public.
Visitors are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets to enjoy the fireworks and performances.
