Inmate dies at Tennessee prison, investigation underway

Tennessee The death of an inmate at the Nashville-Davidson County Sheriff’s Office Male Correctional Development Center on Wednesday night is being looked into by authorities.

The sheriff’s office reports that at approximately 5:50 p.m. on July 2, officials were called to a report of an unresponsive inmate.

Although the detainee was declared dead at the spot, officers started administering CPR and called the Nashville Fire Department.

William Davenport, 31, a felon with a local sentence who had been detained since September 2024 on suspicion of burglary and larceny, has been identified as the deceased. He was incarcerated for three years.

The inquiry is being led by the Metro Nashville Police Department. As of yet, no additional information has been made public.
