Funding freeze: Citing ongoing program reviews, the Trump administration is withholding $185 million from Ohio’s five education programs. The $6.8 billion that was scheduled to be distributed nationwide on July 1 includes this funding. According to Laura Hancock, those affected include the only government after-school learning program, teacher professional development, and migrant education.
Property tax panel: One day after the House declared its intention to reconvene in Columbus to override Governor Mike DeWine’s budget vetoes, DeWine appointed the chairs of his property tax study group.According to Anna Staver, the governor’s panel will be co-chaired by former Congressman Pat Tiberi and former Representative Bill Seitz. DeWine gave them till the 30th of September to submit their suggestions.

Farmed out: According to Sabrina Eaton, U.S. Representative Shontel Brown voiced her displeasure on Thursday over the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s decision to cease taking gender and race into account in several of its loan, grant, and conservation programs. USDA will no longer use the socially disadvantaged category to offer higher benefits based on race and sex in many of its programs, according to a new rule published in the Federal Register. Brown retorted that the USDA’s action has nothing to do with efficiency or justice. It involves removing the resources that aid in leveling the playing field and erasing history.
Moreno v. Powell: According to Axios, U.S. Senator Bernie Moreno is enlisting additional Republican senators in his pressure campaign to compel Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell to step down before his term ends in May 2026.The Republican from Westlake wants to increase the pressure on Powell and make the case stronger in order to get the Fed to cut interest rates sooner. The only senators to ask for Powell’s resignation thus far are Moreno and Republicans Rick Scott of Florida and Tommy Tuberville of Alabama.
Flee to the Cleve: According to Mary Frances McGowan, DeWine visited University Hospitals Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital in Cleveland on Thursday and underlined the value of the state’s healthcare facilities for the treatment of children. DeWine answered inquiries about the possible effects on the state of federal Medicaid cuts when he was there. 771,000 Ohioans may lose their Medicaid coverage as a result of state and federal policy decisions. According to the governor, the state must keep an eye on the implementation of federal regulations at this early stage and keep collaborating with Ohio’s hospitals and congressional representatives to resolve any problems that may come up.
