Editorial cartoons for July 20, 2025: Epstein files firestorm, NPR cuts, Putin’s impunity

Published On:

The Associated Press

reports:

“President Donald Trump is lashing out at his own supporters, accusing them of being duped by Democrats, as he tries to clamp down on criticism over his administration’s handling of much-hyped records in the Jeffrey Epstein sex trafficking investigation, which Trump now calls a ‘Hoax.’ ”

Trump is feeling the MAGA backlash against his administration’s backing away from promises to expose Epstein’s powerful friends, a topic that dominates this week’s editorial cartoon gallery.

Dana Summers leads the collection with his view of the Epstein files as a pesky dog biting at Trump’s pant leg. Nick Anderson imagines the files hidden in the bombed-out mountain where Iran concealed its nuclear program. Jack Ohman’s Epstein file folder has big teeth. Bill Bramhall thinks it’s karma that Trump is being bitten by the conspiracy theory he let loose. Joey Weatherford sees a MAGA wave threatening the White House. Steve Breen and Ohman make visual references to Alligator Alcatraz. Mike Luckovich sees Trump as Superman and the Epstein case as kryptonite.

In other news, Congress voted to rescind $9 billion in foreign aid and funding for National Public Radio and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. Joel Pett bemoans the state of commercial radio. Bramhall pictures the GOP cutting the cord of NPR’s microphone.

Other topics in this week’s gallery include Trump’s frustration with Russian leader Vladimir Putin over the war in Ukraine; the Justice Department’s demand for voter rolls from

nine states

; and the cancellation of comedian Stephen Colbert’s late night show by CBS.

Cartoons were drawn by Jack Ohman, Nick Anderson, Bill Bramhall, Dana Summers, Drew Sheneman, Walt Handelsman, David Horsey, Phil Hands, Joel Pett and Joey Weatherford of Tribune Content Agency; and Mike Luckovich, Steve Breen and Michael Ramirez of Creators Syndicate.
