President Donald Trump’s separate meetings with Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Russian leader Vladimir Putin failed to result in a cease-fire or direct discussions between the warring states, so peace in Ukraine remained elusive. Trump’s red carpet treatment of Putin upon his arrival for their summit in Alaska, which saw them stepping on the horrible corpses of Ukrainian victims, is criticized by Bill Bramhall. According to Michael Ramirez, Ukraine is David in need of further stones, and Russia is Goliath. According to Drew Sheneman, Trump is being led by Putin like a carnival ringmaster. The expanding military occupation of Washington, D.C., following Trump’s declaration of emergency; the president’s directive to the Smithsonian to remove offensive material from its exhibits; California Governor Gavin Newsom’s redistricting plan and Trumpian social media strategy; and starvation in Gaza are some of the other subjects covered in this week’s editorial cartoon gallery.
