Baldwin Wallace University:
Jayanti Upadhyay of Brunswick was honored at the 23rd Annual Dr. Obie Bender Multicultural Awards at Baldwin Wallace University during the spring 2025 semester. The awards honor and affirm the contributions of underrepresented members of the BW community as well as those who contribute to the overall spirit of inclusion.
Upadhyay, a graduate of Brunswick High School majoring in biology and chemistry, received the First-Generation Trailblazer Award. The award recognizes a student who has demonstrated significant commitment, leadership, service, and/or support to the First-Generation community at BW.
Baldwin Wallace celebrates outstanding multicultural students each spring with the Dr. Obie Bender Multicultural Awards. The awards are named for Dr. Obie Bender ’62, who was an officer of the University for 36 years. Throughout his tenure, Bender provided exceptional leadership as a BW administrative liaison and was responsible for intercollegiate athletics, campus security, and the health and physical education and recreation facilities.

Students from our area were among 56 participants in Baldwin Wallace University’s 24th Annual Dance Marathon, raising over $3,000. Local participants included Maddie Bohrer of Brunswick, a graduate of Brunswick High School majoring in criminal justice and psychology; Hailey Fisher of Brunswick, a graduate of Brunswick High School majoring in hospitality, tourism and event management; Kymberli Cleal of Brunswick, a graduate of Brunswick High School majoring in music education and Jillian Gillespie of Valley City, a graduate of Brunswick High School majoring in nursing.
As the largest philanthropy organization on campus, Dance Marathon is a campus-wide event that brings together students, staff, administrators, alumni, parents and community members in the name of one cause – the kids. All proceeds go to the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, which seeks to educate and reduce the transmission and cases of pediatric AIDS worldwide through life-saving treatments and tests.
Students danced for nine hours, raising money and awareness. This year’s event featured performers, service projects, vendors, raffles, dancing and educational sessions on AIDS/HIV.
Kent State University:
A total of 9,249 Kent State University full-time students were named to the Dean’s List for superior academic achievement during the 2025 Spring semester.
Of the full-time students named to the Dean’s List, 1,252 were also named to the President’s List (indicated by *) in recognition of an extremely high level of academic achievement.
