Ohio’s LYNDHURST — The newest member of the South Euclid-Lyndhurst Board of Education has been selected.
The Board chose Christian Sanders, a resident of South Euclid, after interviewing five applicants. Treasurer Joshua Hill administered the oath of office to Sanders during Tuesday’s (Aug. 19) meeting.
Sanders told those in attendance, “I’m really excited to serve this community.” Despite being new to the community, I really enjoy it. I have relatives in the neighborhood, including a few that attended Brush High School.
Dairy King is a mainstay in South Euclid, and I used to sell ice cream down the street, which is incredibly awesome.
With the resources at our disposal, I’m thrilled to be able to lead our community, be a good influence on our kids, and—above all—make sure that we love them.
In response to a question on Wednesday, August 20, about what led the Board to select Sanders to succeed outgoing President Cassandra Jones, incoming President Crystal Shelby cited his dedication to growth and the community. His experience with diversity and inclusion is another.
He received the highest score out of all the candidates that we (the Board members) evaluated.
Due to an increase in her responsibilities at Cleveland Heights Municipal Court, where she has been a bailiff for many years, Jones resigned from the Board in July.
In late July, Shelby, who had served as the Board’s vice president, was elected president.
By a vote of 4-0, the Board also chose Erin Lee as its new vice president during Tuesday’s meeting (Board member Ashley King was not present).
Sanders is Materion Corporation’s campus and diversity talent acquisition lead. He graduated from Marietta College with a bachelor’s degree in arts.
Sanders will remain in office until December 31, 2025, which is the remainder of Jones’ term. He stated, “We’ll see what comes in November (election)” on his future with the Board.
Sanders is running for a full four-year term on November 4.
In addition, incumbent King and first-time candidates Becky J. Richardson, Shirley Smith, and Melissa Tripi have successfully submitted petitions to the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections for SE-L School Board seats.
Three of these candidates will be chosen by voters.
