BAINBRIDGE TOWNSHIP, Ohio —

Police and EMS received a call 9:05 p.m. July 17 for a man drowning in Lake Taylor. A first responder entered the lake and pulled the Chardon man, 20, out of the water with efforts to perform CPR. Bainbridge Township EMS rushed him to Ahuja Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. The man was with friends who said he knew how to swim but failed to do so after entering the lake. Police are awaiting an autopsy report to confirm the cause of death. Foul play is not suspected.
Traffic crash, Bainbridge Road
:
An Oberlin driver, 63, feared he could not stop his truck at the approaching Chillicothe Road intersection 8:45 a.m. July 9, before striking another truck stopped at the traffic light. He attempted to swerve around it. Instead, his truck struck the side of the stopped vehicle, which was holding a ladder, The ladder broke through the window of the Oberlin man’s truck. EMS transported the Oberlein man to Ahuja Medical Center for minor injuries. Police cited him for failure to keep an assured clear distance from other vehicles. The other driver, a 26-year-old Parma man was not injured.
Traffic stop, Chillicothe Road
:
An officer on patrol 2:17 a.m. July 12 saw a truck enter the Giant Eagle store parking lot at a high rate of speed while honking his horn, then drive back out onto the street. The officer followed and caught up to the truck soon after. The driver crossed the center lane marking twice before stopping. The South Russell man, 53, had a blood alcohol level about twice the legal limit. The officer cited him for operating a vehicle while intoxicated and driving outside of marked lanes. The following day, a resident reported a vehicle had struck and damaged their mailbox. Debris found at the scene matched that of the South Russell man’s truck.
