The state of Virginia Authorities in Albemarle County are investigating a mysterious death after a man’s body was found in a forested area close to the Norfolk Southern Railway line over the weekend.
Following a 9-1-1 call from a train passenger who claimed to have seen what seemed to be a body close to the tracks, Albemarle County Police Department (ACPD) officers arrived to the Covesville area on Saturday, June 28.
The deceased man was found by the police when they got on the site. Investigators think he might have passed away in mid-June, perhaps a few weeks ago.
To ascertain the precise cause and manner of death, his remains were taken to Richmond’s Medical Examiner’s Office.
Police are examining the situation as a suspicious death, and the investigation is still underway. Officials, however, think the occurrence was unique and does not represent a community hazard.
