The AP has more details about this matchup here:
LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) — To give quarterback Caleb Williams some on-field experience, Chicago Bears coach Ben Johnson believes the second preseason game is the best time to do so.
The Bears’ Sunday night game against the Buffalo Bills will mark Williams’ first appearance in Johnson’s offense. Austin Reed, Case Keenum, and backup Tyson Bagent played in Sunday’s 24-24 preseason opener against Miami.
“Everyone will play, including our starters,” Johnson declared on Wednesday. I’ve been very constant throughout camp, including last week, in my belief that the most crucial thing to bring Williams up to speed is repetition, repetition, repetition.
Williams would not have had 80 to 100 practice plays in the offense if he had participated in Sunday’s game, according to Johnson.
Naturally, a live defense was not attempting to fire Williams.
According to Johnson, the schedule is different this week, as is the amount of time between games. Our current plan is for the guys who missed last week’s game to play this week.
Although Williams’ performance during training camp has been patchy, Johnson has noticed progress from the second-year quarterback.
Johnson remarked, “I am happy with his ability to spit these plays out right now.” He has made great strides in that direction, and we will further simplify the language once we start a game week. However, we have put him to the test. There has been a lot.
