Several Westshore community high schools scored highly in the 2025–2026 U.S. News and World Report rankings of the best high schools.
Nationwide, the magazine evaluates almost 24,000 public high schools. Based on how effectively they prepare kids for college and how well they perform on state examinations, over 18,000 schools were graded on six criteria.
College preparation (30%), college curriculum breadth (10%), state assessment performance (20%), state assessment proficiency (20%), underserved student performance (10%), and high school graduation rate (10%) were among the weights and criteria used to rank schools this year.
The Bay Village
Bay Village High School is ranked fifth in the Cleveland metropolitan region, 21st in Ohio, and 599th overall.
In an email, Bay Village City Schools superintendent Scot Prebles said, “We are immensely proud of our students, teachers, staff, and the entire community for this outstanding achievement.” It is a credit to the effort and commitment that takes place in our classrooms every day that we have been recognized a U.S. News & World Report Best High School. The increase in our rating is particularly satisfying since it shows how hard we work to give our kids the greatest education possible.
According to the magazine’s summary, students at Bay High School can enroll in Advanced Placement (AP) courses and tests. 66% of students at Bay High School participate in AP. Nine percent of pupils are economically disadvantaged, and nine percent of students are members of a minority group.
There are 759 students enrolled in grades 9–12 at the high school. 95 percent of students graduate.
The Rocky River
Rocky River High School ranked No. 187 nationwide, No. 5 in Ohio, and No. 2 in the Cleveland metropolitan region, making it the best-ranked school in the Westshore. In terms of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) high schools, the school came in at number 188.
Rocky River High School’s AP enrollment rate is 67%. 14% of students are economically disadvantaged, while 12% of all students are members of a minority group.
There are 825 students enrolled in grades 9–12 at the high school. 95 percent of students graduate.
“It is a great honor for our schools to be recognized once more,” stated Rocky River City Schools Superintendent Adham Schirg in an email. It still demonstrates our students’, instructors’, support staff’s, and families’ unwavering devotion, hard work, and pursuit of excellence.
In order to support each and every student, our teaching and support staff is always learning and creating new tactics. Eventually, that develops into deep learning and begins with a nurturing learning environment. Even though the high school received this honor, it genuinely captures our district’s continued dedication to excellence in all of our classrooms and schools.
This honor continues the heritage of academic success in our district, which we could not maintain without the ongoing assistance of our wonderful River community and families.
Westlake
Westlake High School was ranked No. 10 in the Cleveland region, No. 35 in Ohio, and No. 971 overall. In terms of STEM, the school is ranked 194th.
57% of students at Westlake High School participate in AP. Thirty-three percent of pupils are economically disadvantaged, and twenty-one percent of students are minority.
Rob Woods, the principal of Westlake High School, wrote in an email, “I am immensely proud of our staff and students for all of their hard work that is reflected in one of the best ratings Westlake High School has achieved.” We are incredibly blessed to have a fantastic faculty that is always striving to enhance instruction and attain exceptional student results. These outstanding outcomes are made possible by our students’ loving family, who support them in concentrating on their studies. We should be quite pleased of the fact that, according to the data, we are in the top 4% in the nation and the top 3% in the state.

Solon High School is the highest ranked high school in the Cleveland region. Additionally, the institution is ranked No. 4 in Ohio and No. 174 nationally.
