Lakewood is where I call home. It was separated fifty years ago when I moved here. Black drivers were at risk of being pulled over. Its population is presently fairly diversified after gradually integrating. It’s a better area to reside.
Our city’s culture was enhanced by the arrival of immigrants and people of color. A lot of bigots left. The code terms that Lakewood has modified were utilized by certain former neighbors. I’m glad they went.
Our administration is attempting to bring our nation back to the discriminatory 1950s. Our streets are patrolled by heavily armed and masked Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers who violate the human rights of industrious people, including children, by frightening them. And refusing sick individuals medical care unless they are employed? These are the behaviors of a collapsing society.
The Supreme Court has ruled that gun rights are guaranteed under the U.S. Constitution. It does not guarantee health care for all. Does this make sense?
We must create a society that values and respects each person’s human rights while also recognizing and valuing their cultural diversity if we are to live and prosper. The way to a better society is through diversity, equity, and inclusion, which is why our government should support it rather than suppress it.
