Louisiana’s New Orleans On Sunday, the New Orleans Saints and Jacksonville Jaguars play their second preseason game as they continue to prepare for the 2025 NFL season. Every team is trying to get their first preseason victory. Cam Little made a 70-yard field goal, but the Jaguars lost 31–25 to the Steelers at home on August 9. On August 10, 27–13, New Orleans traveled to Los Angeles and fell to the Chargers.

Liam Coen is the Jaguars’ first-year head coach going into the season. Last season, he served as the offensive coordinator for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, helping to guide a team that finished fourth in the NFL in terms of scoring.
Trying to get Trevor Lawrence and the Jaguars offense back on track after it finished 26th in 2024 in terms of scoring will be his biggest task.
Jaguars players to observe
Given what the Jaguars gave up, the acquisition of Travis Hunter was a significant risk. However, if Hunter reaches his peak, his potential might make the move worthwhile.
He truly has what it takes to be a Pro Bowl player on both sides of the ball, something the NFL has never seen before.
Hunter played 10 offensive and 8 defensive snaps against the Steelers in the preseason, displaying some of that versatility.
Jacksonville’s rookie running back, Bhayshul Tuten, is another promising player to keep an eye on. After Travis Etienne Jr. and Tank Bigsby, the Virginia Tech fourth-round selection aims to be the third running back.
During the preseason loss to the Steelers, Tuten ran six times for 24 yards and a touchdown.

Examining the Saints
Derek Carr’s retirement announcement on May 10 was a significant blow to the Saints early in the offseason. It was discovered that Carr had a torn right labrum and what the team referred to as substantial degenerative alterations to his rotator cuff after he had complained of soreness in his throwing shoulder two months prior.
The Saints had to change course after Carr’s unexpected departure and hold a quarterback competition, with rookie Tyler Shough and Spencer Rattler as the front-runners.
Rattler went 7 of 11 for 53 yards and Shough, who threw the team’s only touchdown pass of the game, also threw an interception for a touchdown in the preseason opener against the Chargers.
Saints players to observe
The Saints had to change course after Carr’s unexpected departure and hold a quarterback competition, with rookie Tyler Shough and Spencer Rattler as the front-runners.
Rattler completed 57% of his throws for 1,317 yards, four touchdowns, and five interceptions in his six games as a starter last season.
Shough, a Louisville native, was selected 40th overall. In 2024, he had a strong season, completing 62.7% of his throws for 3,195 yards, 23 touchdowns, and six interceptions over his seven seasons in college.
The Saints also selected Texas offensive tackle Kelvin Banks Jr. with a top-10 choice in the NFL draft last April. In the Chargers preseason opener, he played 20 snaps.
