KIRTLAND, Ohio Twilight, the organization’s signature fundraising event, is returning to Holden Forests & Gardens. A family-friendly raised picnic format took the place of the gala when the Covid epidemic struck in order to keep people outside and away from each other. The sophisticated perk is back for 2025 on Saturday, September 13.
From 4 to 5 p.m., there will be a mobile cocktail reception to kick off the event, which will be held under a large white tent. Live music, hors d’oeuvres, and special interactive activities like flower arrangement, wildflower seed curating, and samplings of wildcrafted drinks made from plants on the organization’s property will all be available to guests.
The Spice Hospitality Group will offer a four-course supper to guests after cocktails. Every course will have a connection to plants that grow at the Cleveland Botanical Garden and/or Holden Arboretum, such as herbs and mushrooms.
Elderberry Dressed Greens, the first course, consists of fresh greens, shaved vegetables, goat cheese, berries, toasted hazelnuts, and elderberry vinaigrette.Hazelnuts and elderberries are examples of native ingredients that honor Holden Forests & Gardens’ work to restore native edible plants and improve biodiversity throughout the Arboretum’s primary natural areas.
The second course is walleye with grilled lemon vinaigrette, garlic greens, and shiitake ramp orzo.Ramps and shiitake mushrooms are examples of flavorful non-timber forest products that showcase Holden’s Working Woods program and capture the diversity of healthy woodlands.
Course Three: Roasted summer vegetables and herbs with creamy Shagbark polenta and fruit-smoked Dee Jay’s short ribsThis meal acknowledges the seed bank work of Holden Forests & Gardens to preserve natural trees, such as hickory, preserving the biodiversity of Northeast Ohio for future generations.
Course Four: Dark chocolate, lavender cream, salted chocolate crumb, and elderberries combine to make a chocolate lavender cake. The dedication of Holden Forests & Gardens to educating the public about the critical role pollinators play in maintaining biodiversity is highlighted by this rich chocolate lavender cake, which features native plants like lavender and elderberry.
There are only 250 tickets for the gala. The evening will include a raise the paddle portion that supports particular mission-focused initiatives in place of the customary silent auction. 7:30 p.m. is the end of the event.
The evening’s dress code is sophisticated outdoor attire. Tickets cost $500 each. They can be found online.
The organization’s only fundraiser for 2025, Twilight, will benefit Holden Forests & Gardens’ primary goal of fostering human connection with nature on both campuses.
The Holden Arboretum is located in Kirtland at 9550 Sperry Road.
