Ohio’s Painesville Township The second phase of the Lakefront Trail, which will extend the well-liked lakeside walk westward behind a recently constructed breakwall, is currently under construction at Painesville Township Park.

The project brings the route one step closer to its long-term objective of connecting Fairport Harbor with the Hardy Road park.

The project is also a component of a larger renovation that aims to improve the park’s versatility and pedestrian friendliness.

In 2023, Lake Metroparks increased parking behind the Community Center and eliminated the drive in front of it. The modifications included a children’s playground, patio portions, picnic places, lake-view seating areas, pedestrian paths, and an open lawn for events.

After the trail’s first phase was finished in the winter of 2023, a 2,300-foot, 10-foot-wide, ADA-accessible walkway was built that extended west from the pier access ramp. The trail features benches, mild hills, expansive views of Lake Erie, and room for both cyclists and walkers.

In 2024, Lake Metroparks held a ribbon-cutting event to commemorate the trail’s opening.

In order to assist prevent coastline erosion, the second phase, which began this month, will extend the route behind the breakwall.

The path might get even closer to Fairport Harbor in a third phase, which is still in the design stages, by adding parking and trail access from Fairport Nursery Road.
