Pickleball players wanted for Aug. 24 Highland Heights charity tournament

Ohio’s Highland Heights — In addition to helping a charity that supports battered women, those who want to compete against others in a pickleball tournament can do both.

To accomplish this, register for the Pickleball for Charity competition, which will be held on the eight courts at Highland Heights Community Park, located at 5905 Wilson Mills Road, on August 24.

Annie Roth, who lives in Beachwood and organizes the competition, co-founded the nonprofit Find You Voice Now in 2022.

You may register at swingtournaments.com/pickleball-for-charity right now. Sign up by August 20th.

The Jewish Community Center of Beachwood, Ace Pickleball Club, Soul Punch Self-Defense, Journey Center for Safety and Healing, and NAMI of Geauga County will all have booths with information, raffles with high-value prizes, and two food trucks—from Pizzazz in Mayfield and Alecci’s Ice Delights—as well as pickleball.

Roth hopes the fundraiser event will help fund the nonprofit charity she started, even though the day will be jam-packed with entertainment from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Three years ago, my Detroit-based colleague, Mary Ellen Bartlett, and I founded Find Your Voice Now. On an airplane, we first met.

According to Roth, that fortuitous encounter resulted in the establishment of a support group that assists women in navigating toxic relationships in their personal and professional life.

According to her, we currently have 1,900 members from throughout the globe.

The event on August 24 will begin with in-person registration at 8 a.m. At nine a.m., play will start.

For players who are more reliable and proficient, there will be a morning session; for those who are less experienced, there will be afternoon play.

Players at levels 3.0 (intermediate, less consistent), 3.5 (increased consistency), and 4.0 (high skills) will participate in the morning session.

Players with skill levels of 2.5 (beginning) and lower are allowed to play in the afternoon.

Entry fees are $50 per individual or $100 per team.

There will be 96 players on the courts in total. Of those spaces, about 40 are already occupied.

“Find Your Voice Now” services will be financed in part by all earnings,” Roth stated.

“The City of Highland Heights has welcomed us with great grace,” she remarked.

So much so that we are eager to make this a yearly occasion.
