Wesley LePatner, a senior Blackstone executive who was shot and killed in the lobby of the company’s Park Avenue office building, has been named.
The investing firm’s women’s initiative was led by LePatner, a mother of two who was praised for her intelligence and high regard.
Following the July 28 mass shooting in midtown Manhattan that left four people dead, Blackstone released a statement confirming LePatner’s passing, according to PEOPLE.
According to Blackstone’s statement, “words cannot express the devastation we feel.” Wesley will be deeply missed as a cherished part of the Blackstone family. She was well-respected both inside and outside of our company for her intelligence, passion, warmth, and generosity.
LePatner joined Blackstone in 2011 and served as the CEO of Blackstone Real Estate Income Trust and Global Head of Core+ Real Estate, according to her profile on the company’s website.
LePatner was shot and killed in the lobby, according to the Wall Street Journal.
LePatner promoted diversity in the workplace while serving as chair of Blackstone’s Women’s Initiative. She underlined the value of a variety of viewpoints while making investment decisions in a 2022 interview with Leaders Magazine.
Our investing strategy depends on having the most varied viewpoints present at the table when making decisions, according to LePatner. We want to make sure that individuals are included and have a voice once they join us, so it’s not just about getting them to the table.
In February, the Yale alumna was elected as a trustee of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, thus extending her influence beyond the realm of business.
“Our prayers are with her husband, children, and family,” Blackstone said at the end of her speech. We also mourn the loss of the other innocent victims, especially the NYPD and courageous security guards.
Didarul Islam, an off-duty NYPD officer, was one of three people killed in the incident, which took place at 345 Park Ave.
According to accounts, the gunman, identified as Las Vegas resident Shane Devon Tamura, shot many individuals in the lobby before riding an elevator to the 33rd story and then committed suicide.
According to PEOPLE, police Commissioner Jessica S. Tisch stated that Tamura, the gunman who used an M4 rifle in the assault, had a history of mental health problems.
A number of businesses are housed in the building, including the NFL, whose commissioner, Roger Goodell, stated that one of its employees was gravely hurt but in stable condition.
