Brooklyn City Council announces park meetings with residents

BROOKLYN, Ohio — For the third straight year, Brooklyn City Council is going on the road.

The “Council in the Park” informal gatherings are scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Monday (July 28) at Marquardt Park and Aug. 11 at Brock Memorial Playground.

Residents are encouraged to bring their own chairs.

“It’s an opportunity for residents to meet with Council members in a less formal setting and ask us questions or share any concerns they have,” Brooklyn City Council President Kathleen Pucci said.

“Anytime we provide residents with an opportunity to meet with their elected officials, it’s a good thing.”

The city council president said attendance fluctuates from a handful to more than a dozen community members.

What makes the summertime events special is getting out into the neighborhoods where residents feel more comfortable than being in the council chambers.

“It’s also an opportunity to update them on some of the projects that we have going on in the city,” she said.

That list of happenings in Brooklyn currently includes the current renovation of Veterans Memorial Park, as well as the ongoing construction of the city’s first dog park located next to the service department on Memphis Avenue.

One project also looming is the multi-phase renovation of John M. Coyne Recreation Center’s natatorium set to begin next year.

“I expect to provide residents with an update on where we are with those projects and what’s involved,” she said.

“The ‘Council in the Park’ meetings are generally for residents who do not attend Council meetings. So these are definitely things that residents are either wondering about.”

With that in mind, Pucci’s message to community members is always the same.

“I always encourage residents if they have the time to come to a Council meeting,” she said.
