WESTLAKE, Ohio –

OVI: Hilliard Boulevard

Officers arrested a 45-year-old suspect for operating a vehicle while intoxicated at 5 p.m. on July 5 after he drove to the Westlake Police Department, parked in a restricted area of the police parking lot, and then walked toward an employee entrance to the police department.

An officer approached the man to see if he needed help and noticed that the man appeared highly intoxicated, according to a police department press release. The officer field-tested the suspect and then arrested him for operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

During his arrest, he told officers about a sheathed knife in his cargo pants. In addition, officers discovered a second knife in his underwear.

The man, who listed a Westlake hotel as his residence, said he had come to the police department to inquire about a cell phone that he had reported missing earlier in the day. The phone disappeared the previous night while he had been playing cards with men he said he didn’t know.

Felony drug possession: Sperry Drive

Officers stopped a car at 2:50 a.m. on July 7 on Sperry Drive after learning that the owner was wanted on a warrant out of Lakewood.

The owner was driving, and officers placed him into custody.

Officers discovered he possessed five pills in a small sandwich bag along with small bags of marijuana and a suspected scale. The 25-year-old Garfield Heights man said he used the scale to sell marijuana, and he bought the pills thinking they were Percocet, according to the police. He told the officers that he suspected they were fentanyl, so he hadn’t “tried them yet.”

Officers turned over the vehicle to a female passenger, and they took the driver to the Westlake jail on a charge of felony drug possession.
