An April Fools’ Day prank that claimed the popular fast-food chain In-N-Out was making a change to how it prepares its food appears to have fooled the White House.
USA Today reports
the White House released a statement Monday outlining changes some companies had made in response to the administration’s “Make America Healthy Again” initiative. The statement said one of the changes was that In-N-Out was now using 100% pure beef tallow in its cooking process.
Turns out that’s incorrect. The claim that company was now using beef tallow was a
social-media prank
that was posted on April 1.
SFGate.com reports
In-N-Out confirmed it still uses sunflower oil to cook its French fries. The White House has since corrected its news release.
“Information was recently published in error stating that In-N-Out Burger has transitioned to beef tallow for cooking French fries,” Denny Warnick, the chain’s chief operating officer, tells SFGate.com. “We continue to work on an upgrade to our current sunflower oil, however we have not yet made a change.”
The
San Francisco Chronicle reports
the chain recently announced it is making some health-related changes to its menu items, including removing artificial dyes from two of its drinks. It also is changing to a ketchup made with real sugar rather than high-fructose corn syrup.
In-N-Out is a California-based fast-food burger restaurant that has about 400 locations. There currently are no In-N-Outs in Ohio.
