Illinois Local investigators are looking into a homicide after a shooting early Thursday morning claimed the life of a 32-year-old Champaign man.
Following several reports of gunfire and injuries, Champaign Police were called to the 1900 block of W. Bradley Avenue at 12:36 a.m. on July 4. The victim was taken by private transport to a nearby hospital in critical condition while police combed the area. After undergoing surgery, he passed away from his wounds.
Investigators think that when several shots were fired, the individual was outside a store.
Before the police came, the suspect or suspects left the site. A number of nearby automobiles were also damaged in addition to the tragic gunfire.
Police are still searching the neighborhood for security footage and witnesses. Businesses and nearby households who have outdoor cameras are encouraged to call the police.
The inquiry is still underway, and no one has been taken into custody.
The Champaign County Sheriff’s Office and the Urbana and Parkland College Police Departments were thanked by the Champaign Police Department for their support.
