INDIANA Numerous arrests and the confiscation of firearms and illegal drugs have been made as a consequence of a multi-agency law enforcement operation along U.S. 31 in Miami and Fulton counties.

Operation Blue Thunder was an unexpected four-day operation that took place from June 16 to June 19.

Enforcing traffic laws and taking tough measures against those smuggling illegal drugs through the region were the objectives of the operation.

Officials report that 68 people were arrested as a result of the operation on 163 offenses, the most of which had to do with drugs. Of those counts, 29 were felonies. In addition, officers issued 272 warnings and 102 traffic penalties.

Two drivers were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. Two firearms and a variety of illegal narcotics, including cocaine, LSD, methamphetamine, and marijuana, were seized during the operation.

The public is being urged by authorities to report any information regarding illicit drug activities to local law enforcement or to the Indiana State Police Drug and Gang Hotline, which can be reached anonymously at 1-800-453-4756.
